Description of the Collection
The exhibition (area 70sq.m.) addresses the following topics: "Thoughts About Russian Democracy. The 19th century. "Ulianov's memorial room" and "At Semenovsky plats-parade".
The first topic discusses the problem of the relationship between power and society, telling the visitor about social changes and political and revolutionary movements of the 19th century.
The memorial exhibit is devoted to Ulianov's personality and describes his life from 1894-95, when he was a young attorney assistant.
The interior is typical for the middle class at the end of the 19th century. The local history exhibit is about the local settlement; the history of the Semenovsky, Moscow and Izmailov Regiments; schools, hospitals and businesses (Boarding School for the children of noblemen, Tsarskoje Selo Railway, Obuhov's hospital, Semenov's hospital, Sinodale Publishing House, etc.)

The collections are assembled to correspond with the following topics:
The History of Revolutionary-democratic and Social-political movements
in 19th-20th centuries. (In Russia and St. Petersburg) ;
- Local history (St. Petersburg, Sementsi, Leninsky and Octjabrjsky
districts, Admiraltejsky district. 19-20th centuries. :
- The History of the Life Guards Regiments in 18-19th centuries.;
- The History of the Moscow-Narvsky area development;
- Science, Culture, Education, Sports;
- Everyday life objects of the 19-20th centuries.;
- Faith and Worship;
- The History of Industrial Development (transport, factories, the developing of publishing houses);
- Leningrad during the Great Patriotic War and the Siege.
The collection is divided into the main fund (20378 objects, as of 01.08.99), the research fund (8094 objects) and the exchange fund, which are also divided into departments:
- The fund of objects (the main fund contains 370 objects, the
assisting one - 38 objects ) It keeps the everyday life objects of
19-20th, the Great Patriotic War period and the Siege. .
- The Documental Archives (the main fund contains 2871 objects, the
research fund contains 173 objects)
- The Photo Archive (the main fund contains 777 objects, the research fund contains 7469 objects)
- The Printed Editions Fund (the main fund contains 5750 objects,
the research fund contains 50 objects)
- The Arts Fund (the main fund contains 1430 objects, the research fund contains 68 objects)
- The Negatives Archive (the main fund contains 230 objects, the
research fund 212 objects)
- The Rare Books Archive (the main fund contains 8188 objects, the
research fund contains 84 objects) It contains books published before
1946, autographed books with notes and autographs, and rare books.
- The Philately Archive (the main fund contains 194 objects)
- The Fund of Phaleristics (the main fund contains 226 objects) It
preserves various signs.
- The Numismatics Collection (the main fund contains 281 objects) This collection includes all kinds of money (paper money and coins), and also sealing-wax samples.
- The Phono Archives (the main fund contains 61 objects) It preserves audio
and video documents.
The museum's exhibits contain objects related to the history of St. Petersburg and the history of the Admiraltisky District from the city's founding to the present day.
The main collectors are museum workers.
Negative, Photo and Phono Archives are parts of museum's structure.
Negative Archives (442 objects) contains negatives of historical places and political figures. Recent additions include pictures about the museum's history.
Photo Archive (8246 objects). The bulk of this collection includes photos taken during the socialism years. There are photos from the 19-20th centuries and modern photos of local places, political figures and the museum itself.
Phonoteque (61 objects)keeps records.
The library is also a part of the museum's structure and contains 14072 objects. It stores books on social and political topics, published before and just after the Revolution. The library preserves periodicals dated from 1918.
Archives
- Archive "Female Movement and Organisations", received from the St. Petersburg City Council in 1996, includes 1133 items, such as documents about social questions, among them on the female movement in St. Petersburg and Russia from 1992-1996.
- Archive of the social movement "Spiritual Heritage" local department, containing 730 objects. It keeps documents from the organization's founding (in 1992) to the present. The archive continues to expand.
