Collection

The collections of photographs and negatives

The collection of photographs includes more than 27000 photos of every Peterhoff's object and also -- the photos of numerous exhibits from the museum collection for the period of 1879-1994. There are the pre-Revolutionary pictures of different subjects. The collection of negatives includes the negatives made on film and made on glass with the pictures of the ensemble objects and also-the negatives that fixed the objects of the museum collection. Totally there are more than 29000 negatives since the beginning of 20c. to 1994.

The Archives.

The museum archives consists of several parts. The part "The Schemes" contains the schemes since 19c. up to the present. They reflect Peterhoff objects during its building, rebuilding and restoring. The part "The Manuscripts" includes the researches about the building history, the methodical supplies for the guide-tours, the catalogs of the exhibitions(since 1868). There are the special catalogs for the units of keeping and the lists of the museum funds in the part "The Catalogs". The next part is "The Files". It keeps the annual accounts, human resource dossiers, the documents including the information about building and restoration, the editions and the exhibitions. Also there is the part "The Estimates" in the archives. This part contains the financial estimates for repaires and restoration of the museum. The documents on different subjects that are not included in the mentioned parts, are put in the part "The Odd".

These are the herald of Peterhoff and of Great Princes' residences of Peterhoff region, the amateur drawings, etc. The collections of photographs and negatives are also parts of the archives.

The Library.

The library was started to form in twentieth of 20c. from the funds of palaces and from the State Book Fund. Before the Second World War there were 2000 books. During the War that collection was completely lost. It was started to complete at the end of seventies. The book fund of the library consists of several funds:

  • The scientific library: 25000 units
  • The rare books: 2500 units
  • Postcards: 2000 units
  • Book-plates: 6000 units

There is the collection of books about art history: art, architecture, park building, sculpture, painting, decorative and applying art, the literature about the history of Russia and Western Europe, the collection of Russian and West-European books of 18-19c. The most complete collection is the books about the architectural ensembles, especially, about Peterhoff. The library contains the main encyclopedias and reference book about art and history. The library exchanges the books with the best large libraries of other museums.
